Telefónica dials for Danish dramas

Spain’s Telefónica has picked up dramas Below the Surface and Ride Upon the Storm from producer and distributor StudioCanal.

Both series will air on the telco giant’s Movistar Series and Movistar Series Xtra channels in December.

Ride Upon the Storm (10×60’) – a coproduction involving Denmark’s DR, Arte France and Danish outfit SAM Productions – focuses on a family of priests. A second season has already been commissioned by DR, to air in 2018.

Also produced by SAM, crime thriller Below the Surface (8×50’) centres on the hijacking of a subway train in Copenhagen. The series is exec produced by Søren Sveistrup (The Killing), Adam Price (Borgen) and Meta Louise Foldager Sorensen (A Royal Affair).
