Telefe’s family crime drama The Return of Lucas

MIPCOM: Argentinian broadcaster Telefe has sold its family crime drama The Return of Lucas to a trio of buyers for the Middle East, Africa and Asia.

Israeli broadcaster Yes, PhuThai Media in Vietnam and production company Beelink, which covers the Middle East and North Africa, have taken the show.

The drama, which is coproduced by Telefe and Peru’s América TV, has already been sold widely in the Americas, including to Univision-owned Hispanic network UniMás in the US, Chile’s Mega channel, Ecuador’s Ecuavisa, Panama’s Medcom, Honduras’s Televicentro, Costa Rica’s Teletica and Bolivia’s Unitel.

A format licence for Telefe’s telenovela Candy Love has also been picked up by Malaysian prodco Juita Viden Media. The original, which is coproduced by Telefe and LCA Producciones, has so far been adapted in Mexico, Colombia and Chile.

The deals highlight Telefe’s ambition to grow its international presence and follow yesterday’s news that US network NBC has picked up the rights to adapt Telefe’s Un Año Para Recorda
