Telefe gets Mad About You

The Chinese version of Mad About You

The Chinese version of Mad About You has performed strongly

Argentina’s Telefe has become the latest broadcaster to order a local version of comedy format Mad About You.

The Sony Pictures Television (SPT) show, which recently launched in China, is being adapted by Telefe into a 60-episode half-hour series known locally as Loco Por Vos (Crazy for You). Production has been slated to begin in early March.

The deal comes after the format made its debut in China, where the local version, known as Xin Hun Gong Yu, amassed 161 million views on AVoD platform Youku in its first three weeks.

SPT said the comedy, which also airs on Dragon TV, continues to rank as the number-one show in the timeslot among all national satellite channels.

Jeff Lerner, executive VP of scripted development and international production for SPT, said his firm would “be working very closely with Telefe to create stories that are true to the original in a way that is also authentic to audiences in Argentina.”

The show will follow a city-dwelling newlywed couple looking to sustain marital bliss despite many hurdles, including their careers, families and friends.

The series is based on a US show that ran for seven seasons, originally produced by In Front Productions with Nuance Productions in association with SPT.

SPT has already adapted several sitcoms for Argentina with Telefe, including Cascados con Hijos (Married with Children), La Niñera (The Nanny), Hechizada (Bewitched) and Quien es el Jefe (Who’s the Boss).
