Taskmaster gets four more seasons

Taskmaster is currently in its fifth season

UKTV has commissioned a further four seasons of comedy gameshow Taskmaster from London prodco Avalon.

The series, which is currently in its fifth run on UKTV-owned comedy and entertainment network Dave, sees comedian and ‘taskmaster’ Greg Davies and his assistant Alex Horne test comedians through a set of physical challenges.

Taskmaster was created by Horne, who is exec producer alongside Avalon’s joint MD Jon Thoday, Richard Allen-Turner, Rob Aslett, James Taylor, Andy Devonshire and UKTV’s Hilary Rosen. Andy Cartwright is series producer, with Devonshire series director. Taskmaster is produced and distributed by Avalon.

At the end of last year, Danish broadcaster TV2 ordered a local adaptation of the show, following on from a commission from US network Comedy Central.

Season six of the UK version will air this spring and welcomes five new competitors including Liza Tarbuck (Upstart Crow), Russell Howard (The Russell Howard Hour) and Tim Vine (Not Going Out).

The show was ordered by Rosen and Richard Watsham, director of commissioning at UKTV, who said he couldn’t wait to work with Taskmaster’s creative team to create the next 40 episodes.

“Once in a while, a startlingly original bit of TV comes along that redefines an entire genre and I’m just pleased it’s on Dave,” Watsham said.
