Vuguru’s president Larry Tanz has been promoted to CEO of the digital studio, set up by former Disney chief Michael Eisner.

In his new role, Tanz will continue to oversee development, production, distribution, marketing and strategic partnerships, reporting to Eisner.

The news comes after Vuguru and Spider-Man creator Stan Lee’s POW! Entertainment announced they were co-creating one of the 100 premium content channels being rolled out by video streaming giant YouTube. The channel, Stan Lee’s World of Heroes, has a superhero theme.

“Larry’s exceptional leadership, ability to attract high-profile talent, identify outstanding material and produce content that consumers want is why we chose to promote him to the position of CEO,” said Eisner.

Tanz has been with Vuguru since 2009, when he joined from his own prodco, Agility Studios, and has overseen projects such as web drama The Booth at the End. He was also CEO of LivePlanet, the multi-platform prodco co-founded by Hollywood actors Ben Affleck and Matt Damon.

Vuguru is focusing on more female-skewing content this year, which will roll out on AOL, and a sequel to Booth is also due. Two years ago, Canada’s Rogers Media invested in the firm, which was at the same time spun out of Eisner’s Tornante venture fund.
