Syfy, Showcase to end Continuum

US cablenet Syfy and Canada’s Showcase have renewed time-traveling police drama Continuum for a fourth and final season.

In a statement this week, star Rachel Nichols wrote: “All great stories deserve an end. I am excited and grateful to finish Continuum with the riveting conclusion it deserves. This series finale is dedicated to the devoted fans who have loyally supported us since day one.”

The series, from executive producer Simon Barry, premiered on Showcase in 2012 and was bought by Syfy in 2013. The final six episode run will air in 2015.

Continuum is about a cop from the future who finds herself trapped in the present day, swept along when a group of fanatical terrorists escaped their planned execution in 2077 by vaulting back in time.

Filmed on location in Vancouver, Canada, Continuum is developed and produced by Reunion Pictures. International distribution is handled by Endemol, with the series airing in more than 132 countries.

Exec producers are series creator Barry (The Art of War) and Pat Williams (Smallville) alongside Reunion Pictures partners Tom Rowe, Lisa Richardson and Matthew O’Connnor.
