Syfy delves into virtual reality drama

NBCUniversal International Networks has commissioned a virtual reality (VR) police procedural series for its Syfy channel.

Canadian digital studio Secret Location will produce 15 episodes of shortform scripted series Halycon.

The project will include 10 episodes to view on Syfy linear channels worldwide, as well as Syfy websites, while five VR episodes will be launched on the Oculus Rift VR platform.

The programme is set in 2058 and follows a female detective in the Virtual Reality Crimes Unit investigating the first real-life murder to take place within the VR realm.

The series is directed by Bafta-nominated Benjamin Arfmann (Random Stop),

Production of Halcyon began in Toronto this month and the show is produced with a financial contribution from Canada’s Independent Production Fund.
