Superprod opens LA office

French production company Superprod has opened an office in LA headed by its chief financial officer, Louise de Staël.

The new location is Paris-based Superprod’s first US office and will allow the firm to form partnerships with local companies for TV series and feature films.

In her new role, de Staël will also seek work for the company’s Angoulême-based 3D animation production subsidiary Superprod Studio, formerly known as Vanilla Seed, in the US market.

Sophie Spilliaert is taking over as chief financial officer of Superprod, having joining the company from French banking firm BESV in December last year.

“Opening an office in Los Angeles will strengthen our already advanced connections in the world’s most dynamic animation market and consolidate the international position and reputation of our studio,” said Clement Calvet and Jérémie Fajner, Superprod’s founding producers, in a joint statement.

In related news, free TV broadcasters in Colombia, Argentina, Mexico and Brazil have acquired titles from Superights, the distribution arm of Superprod.

Señal Colombia has taken educational comedy Kika & Bob (52×13′), while Canal Once in Mexico has picked up Story Time! (26×13′) and Will (52×2′), a shortform series based on the daily life of a 10-year-old boy in a wheelchair.

Elsewhere, Argentinian kids’ channel Paka Paka has also taken Story Time! in addition to preschool adventure comedy Emmy & Gooroo (52×11′). Brazil’s TV Escola has also acquired Will and comedy Picnic with Cake (13×5′).
