Superights picks China, Spain toon

Emmy & Gooroo will be available by the fall

A French distributor has picked up global rights to a gender-neutral animated series for preschoolers being produced in China and Spain.

Superights will represent Emmy & Gooroo (52×11′) around the world, excluding China and Spain, following the deal with producers Left Pocket Studio in Shanghai and Tomavision in Barcelona.

The series, currently in production, follows a creative and resourceful five-year-old girl and her best friend, a big, furry and huggable creature, in their daily adventures in a magic forest. Episodes are due to be ready by fall 2017.

Chinese VoD platform Youku Tudou is already onboard as a coproducer on the project, which won the first prize at the MipJunior International Pitch in 2014.

Leanne Passafonti, of consultancy firm Bright Box Creative, helped develop the show, script editing the series and writing two of the episodes to increase its international potential.
