Vivendi-owned drama specialist StudioCanal is launching Swedish-French drama Midnight Sun at Mipcom next month.

The Canal+/SVT series is billed as the first French/Swedish coproduction and is produced by Atlantique Productions, Modern Times Group-owned Nice Drama and Filmpool Nord.

The eight-part series, created by Mårlind & Stein (Bron/Broen), follows a detective working in a struggling mining community where a French citizen has been murdered. The show is based on an idea by Henrik Jansson-Schweizer and Patrick Nebout and will launch this year.

Actors Leïla Bekhti, Gustaf Hammarsten and Sofia Jannok, alongside creators Måns Mårlind and Björn Stein, and producers Olivier Bibas and Stefan Baron, will be in Cannes to officially launch the drama to international buyers at a press conference in the Blue Lounge, Press Club, on Monday, October 17, at 10.00.

Other scripted series on StudioCanal’s slate include Below The Surface, from SAM Productions for Denmark’s Kanal 5; Paranoid, from Red Production Company for ITV in the UK; and Crazyhead, from Urban Myth Films for Channel 4 in association with Netflix.
