Story Lab hires WME exec for US

Global producer, distributor and media investor The Story Lab has expanded into the US and appointed a former WME executive to lead its operations in the country.

Tom Sebastian

Tom Sebastian has been made president of The Story Lab US and will grow its business from its LA office.

He will be responsible for leading premium non-scripted and scripted strategy for investment in TV, film and digital. He will also explore monetisation opportunities around Dentsu Aegis-owned The Story Lab’s existing slate of IP across the Americas.

Sebastian was previously co-CEO of creative agency Swirl McGarryBowen, which was acquired by Dentsu in late 2017. While there he co-led the agency’s growth and development work on numerous brands, including Microsoft and Walmart.

He previously held roles in WME’s corporate consulting division, working across brands and talent such as 20th Century Fox’s Avatar, and in TV production at Lifetime Television and The Health Channel.

The Story Lab, which has backed global formats including Ninja Warrior and Game of Clones, has been expanding significantly in the past year and recently appointed former FremantleMedia sales director Geraldine Bravo as regional content sales and acquisition director for Asia.

This was preceded by the firm’s move into Ukraine and its appointment of Donovan Castillo-Mohlman to head its Asia-Pacific operations.

“We are delighted to expand our successful offering in the US to create a powerful global footprint,” said Nick Brien, CEO of the Americas for Dentsu Aegis Network.

“Tom is the ideal leader for this growth initiative. His expertise in both entertainment and content marketing are invaluable and will accelerate us into even bigger opportunities for content creators and more culturally relevant marketing.”
