Stars format bound for Cambodia

Cambodia will become the latest territory to remake Dancing with the Stars after local broadcaster Cambodia Television Network (CTN) greenlit a series to debut next year.

The deal marks the 49th sale of the format for BBC Worldwide (BBCWW) and also marks the distributor’s first sale into Cambodia.

Cambodia Broadcasting Corp, which owns CTN, will take on the production of the show, which is set to premiere in mid 2014.

Earlier this year, BBCWW launched BBC World News, BBC Lifestyle and BBC Knowledge in the country.

“Being able to adopt this internationally successful BBC format reinforces our strength and capabilities as a network,” said Bernard Anthony, general manager of CTN.

Local versions of Dancing with the Stars air in countries including Lebanon, India, Australia, France, Denmark and Thailand.
