Spike enters Waco drama

Spike TV in the US has acquired a six-part drama about the real-life Waco siege that left 76 people dead.

Waco is from Weinstein Television and is based on the events of the 51-day siege involving cult leader David Koresh, which came to a head when the FBI stormed his compound.

The show will start production early next year and is being written by brothers John Erick Dowdle and Drew Dowdle, based on books about the event from hostage and FBI viewpoints.

The show’s exec producers include its stars Taylor Kitsch and Michael Shannon, the Dowdles, Weinstein Television’s Harvey and Bob Weinstein and the prodco’s TV co-head of production Jennifer Malloy.

It’s the latest show between Spike and the Weinstein Company, following Time: The Kalief Bowder Story, which was revealed in August, and drama series The Mist, slated for 2017.
