South Australian Film hires production chief

The South Australian Film Corp (SAFC) has appointed the artistic director and CEO of the Adelaide Film Festival as head of production, development, attraction and studios.

Amanda Duthie

Amanda Duthie will take up the role in November following this year’s festival, which runs from October 10 to 21.

The latest of several executives to have held the role in an acting capacity is SAFC CEO Courtney Gibson, who joined in April following the departure of Michelle Krumm last December.

Krumm joined Arclight Films as head of Australian operations and worldwide acquisitions.

Earlier this year the agency moved to a 100% grant model and removed the funding cap for TV dramas and features after introducing a 10% post-production, digital and visual effects (PDV) rebate scheme to supplement the federal government’s 30% PDV offset.

The SAFC supported Pine Gap, Screentime’s international political thriller commissioned by Netflix and pubcaster the ABC, which will premiere in Australia on October 14.

During Duthie’s six-year term, the Adelaide Film Festival Fund invested in numerous features including Jennifer Kent’s The Nightingale, Warwick Thornton’s Sweet Country, Rolf de Heer’s Charlie’s Country and Sophie Hyde’s 52 Tuesdays.

The fund also backed two Virtual Reality works, Lynnette Wallworth’s Emmy-winning Collisions and Molly Reynolds and Rolf de Heer’s The Waiting Room.
