Sony’s Goldbergs settle in at E4

UK broadcaster Channel 4 has inked a multi-season deal for Sony Pictures Television (SPT)’s US sitcom The Goldbergs.

The series will air on C4’s youth-skewing digital network E4 with season one set to broadcast in early 2015.

The Goldbergs first premiered in the US on ABC in September 2013 with a debut audience of more than 11 million. The first season averaged seven million viewers across its 23-episode run.

The deal comes after a host of global nets, including E4, recently picked up fellow SPT comedy Marry Me.

The Goldbergs is a single camera comedy from Adam Sandler’s production company Happy Madison, Adam F Goldberg Productions and Exhibit A Productions in conjunction with SPT.

It stars Jeff Garlin (Curb Your Enthusiasm), Wendi McLendon-Covey (Bridesmaids) and George Segal (Who’s Afraid of Virginia Woolf?).

The series is based loosely on showrunner Adam Goldberg’s own upbringing and is told from the perspective of youngest child Adam (Sean Giambrone), who documents daily family life in the 1980s with his video camera, capturing his relatives’ eccentric characters.
