Sony Pictures Television (SPT) has taken a stake in the Swedish production company behind acclaimed mystery-noir drama Jordskott.

Palladium Fiction is led by Henrik Björn, Filip Hammarström and Johan Rudolphie and is expanding its global efforts with a focus on high-end international drama. SPT, which has taken an undisclosed minority stake in the firm, will distribute around the globe.

Ten-part series Jordskott premiered on Swedish pubcaster SVT in February last year and had been distributed by ITV Studios Global Entertainment. The first run has sold around the world, including to ITV Encore in the UK, and Palladium is in development on a second season with SVT.

Palladium also has three other projects in the works including an as-yet untitled project in partnership with Jimmy Desmarais, co-CEO of Atlantique Productions. The prodco was founded in 2014 by Björn, Hammarström, Rudolphie and Swedish media company Strange-Dahl, Jihde och Björn. Financial details of the deal were not revealed.

Andrea Wong, president of international production at SPT, said Palladium would be “a great complement” to the company’s drama production companies.

“Collectively, Henrik, Filip and Johan have a distinctive voice that is edgy, thought-provoking and entertaining. Their talents are evident in their ambitious development slate and we look forward to helping them build on their success.”

Hammarström added: “Sony is outstanding creatively and makes a fantastic business partner with a strong international production and distribution network that will help us maximise opportunities as we expand our global reach.”

SPT has been increasing its global drama footprint over recent years, having taken a US$64m stake in Left Bank back in 2012. In June it took a minority stake in fledgling UK drama producer Blueprint Television.
