The partnership aims to develop six television projects and produce three original series over the next three years, with an emphasis on high-impact action, crime and mystery. They will air on Sony’s AXN networks across Latin America, Asia, Africa and Europe.

All the projects will be financed jointly by Sony Pictures Television Networks (SPTN) and Pinewood Television.

Marie Jacobson, executive VP of programming and production at SPTN, said Pinewood Television made for an ideal partner to expand original series development

Pinewood is led by creative director Helen Gregory, whose CV includes co-creating The Catch for ABC in the US, alongside dramas and comedies for all the major UK networks.

Pinewood Television, a joint venture between the UK’s Pinewood Studios and media investment company StoryFirst, made its move into content creation this year with the launch of a TV production division, partnering with producers to provide development and deficit financing for projects.

Peter Gerwe, chief executive of StoryFirst, called Pinewood and Sony’s creative teams “a great fit” and said: “We are looking forward to bringing our financing capabilities to the market.”

The agreement follows the arrival of Christian Wikander, previously SVT’s drama commissioner who was behind The Bridge, as coproduction director at Pinewood in August.
