Sony mines Ouro in CEE

Ouro was shot in French Guyana and centres on the world of gold trafficking

Sony Pictures Television Networks (SPTN) has acquired the first season of French gold trafficking drama Ouro from Newen Distribution.

SPTN will air the 8×52′ series on its AXN network in Central and Eastern Europe, including in Bosnia Herzegovina, Croatia, Czech Republic, Hungary, Romania, Serbia, Slovakia and Slovenia.

French pay TV network Canal+ began production recently on a second season of the show. It follows a 20-year-old geology student who travels to French Guyana for an internship but quickly becomes embroiled in the dangerous but potentially lucrative world of gold trafficking.

It was created by Fabien Nury and coproduced by Mascaret Films in France with Shine Films, Nicolas Coppermann and Ariel Askénazi.

The first season premiered in France in January. Newen has also sold it to broadcasters including SBS in Australia, OnDirectTV in Latin America and RTL Crime in Germany, Austria and Switzerland.

“The series is a unique mix of genres. It’s adventure but also a thriller and a modern Western set in the Amazonian jungle. I’m sure the series will be a great addition to SPTN’s slate of programming in the region,” said Nadia Chevallard, head of international sales at Newen.
