Sony, iQIYI partner on Mandarin thriller

Chinese streamer iQIYI is partnering with Sony Pictures Television (SPT) on a three-part Mandarin-language drama series.

iQIYI and SPT will coproduce the adaptation of US drama Chosen, making it into a trilogy for online viewers. Chosen, a Crackle original, has aired for four season since 2013 on the SPT-owned OTT service.

SPT’s Playmaker Media is producing with support from Screen NSW and the show will be shot entirely in Australia. Production begins in the spring with a launch due at the end of 2017.

The action thriller follows a family that becomes drawn into a deadly game that ultimately brings them closer together.

Yang Xianghua, iQIYI’s senior VP, and Dai Huang, VP of sales, international distribution and production at SPT Asia Pacific, made the announcement yesterday.
