TruTV shows include tattoo series Ink Master

Sony Pictures Television (SPT) ^[1] has acquired the UK version of TruTV, less than three years after it was launched into the market by Turner Broadcasting.

SPT will fully own and operate the channel in the UK from today. The deal sees SPT take a selection of the existing TruTV content library, including acquired series Snapped, Paranormal Survivor and Ink Master.

TruTV joins a network of 18 SPT-owned channels in the UK, a roster has grown since the company first launched in the market back in 2011 and includes the Sony Channel, Movies4Men and The Vault.

Turner launched ^[2] TruTV in the UK in 2014, marking its first free-to-air channel in the territory.

Ian McDonough, the company’s senior VP and MD of Northern Europe, said: “Since launch, TruTV has delivered solid ratings and ad sales and built a loyal fanbase. As such, we are delighted that UK viewers can continue to enjoy TruTV’s unique blend of entertainment as part of Sony’s portfolio.

“Sony’s acquisition of the channel enables us to focus our energy on developing our own franchises and brands, delivering content across multiple touchpoints to our fans wherever and however they choose to engage.”

Turner will continue to represent ad sales for the channel while Sky Media will continue to sell advertising on behalf of all other Sony channels.
