Sonar seals Peele deal

US producer and distributor Sonar Entertainment has entered into a first-look deal with Jordan Peele’s production company Monkeypaw Productions.

The agreement encompasses all content for television, including digital, from Monkeypaw, which was founded by Peele in 2012 and produced his sketch show Key & Peele, which also starred Keegan-Michael Key, on Comedy Central for five seasons.

Its slate includes Tracy Morgan’s untitled comedy series for TBS, which starts production later this year.

It’s the latest in a series of first-look deals announced by Sonar, which also has overall producer agreements with George Clooney and Grant Heslov’s Smokehouse Pictures, and Robert Downey Jr and Susan Downey’s prodco Team Downey.

Sonar CEO Thomas Lesinski said the collaboration with Peele “aligns perfectly with Sonar’s vision for developing, producing and distributing premium programming with the highest-profile talent for a broad, global audience.”
