Snapchat, Vertical go on second date

Snapchat is again teaming up with Elisabeth Murdoch’s Vertical Networks to produce more episodes of Phone Swap, which is also set for a move to TV.

Phone Swap is available on Snapchat’s Discover platform

The dating show will return for a second season after reaching a peak audience of 14 million on social media app Snapchat’s Discover platform – the highest number of viewers for any Snapchat show to date.

Meanwhile, Robin Ashbrook, executive producer of Fox’s MasterChef and NBC’s Little Big Shots, is developing the format for network television.

Each episode of Phone Swap gives two strangers unrestricted access to each other’s phone before they meet. Viewers watch as they see messages, photos and other clues that help them decide whether they should continue with the date.

Phone Swap was developed by Vertical’s in-house development team, staffed by executives drawn from companies such as Viacom and Buzzfeed.

Dating has proved to be a highly relatable area for the key millennial audience and the show plays on the revolution in online dating, Vertical said.

Vertical and Snapchat recently greenlit two original series to follow Phone Swap: Yes Theory and Without Limits, both of which will air on Snapchat Discover this summer.
