SMG gobbles up Dimsum deals in Asia

Malaysia’s fledgling SVoD service Dimsum has agreed a raft of content deals with Asian operators.

The Asian-focused on-demand service, operated by SMG Entertainment (fka Star Online), has signed output agreements with CITVC and Shanghai Wings Media (SWM) in China, TV Asahi in Japan, MediaQuiz in Hong Kong and Singapore’s MediaCorp.

The CITVC pact covers 800 hours of programming, including exclusive rights to fantasy drama series Tribes & Empires: Storm of Prophecy, while SWM will launch a branded VoD channel on Dimsum.

TV Asahi’s deal marks the first time Japanese content will be made available on an OTT platform and simulcast in Malaysia and incudes shows such as medical drama Doctor-X. The partnerships with MediaQuiz and MediaCorp cover series including Princess Hours and Patisserie Fighting respectively.

Dimsum, which launched in Malaysia in November, struck the deals at the recent Hong Kong International Film & TV Market.
