Sky Vision poaches Sony exec

The international distribution arm of European satcaster Sky has appointed an executive from Sony as director of drama and comedy.

Kylie Munnich will join Sky Vision in January, working with Sky’s drama and comedy commissioners as well as independent producers to develop programming.

Munnich joins from Sony Pictures Television where she is currently senior VP for UK, Ireland and Africa. She joined in 2005 as VP of distribution for Australia and New Zealand before moving to her current London-based role in 2011.

Prior to that Munnich worked at MGM International Television Distribution and Filmbank Distributors.

Her remit is to build on the success of recent crime drama Fortitude, launched by Sky Vision at Mipcom after its premiere on Sky Atlantic, and Emily Mortimer-fronted comedy Doll & Em, which aired on Sky Living and has been acquired by HBO.

Munnich fits into the newly formed senior management team at Sky Vision, which includes Barnaby Shingleton as director of factual and entertainment, Oliver Jacquet as director of sales, strategy and operations and Danny Tipping as director of programming and development. Mike Shanks is the director of finance.

Munnich and the rest of the team report to Sky Vision MD Jane Millichip.

In related news, Sky Vision has signed a development and distribution partnership with start-up UK indie Chalkboard TV.

The deal sees Sky Vision support the creation of entertainment and factual entertainment properties that it can then distribute internationally.

The company was created by Ben Hall, previously MD of Shine Network, former Shine and BBC development executive Mike Benson and Total Wipeout producer Warwick Banks.
