Sky Vision gets first look at Elephant

Agents of the Shadows focuses on French espionage

The production and distribution arm of European satcaster Sky has signed a first-look deal with French production group Elephant.

The agreement gives Sky Vision the first option on Elephant’s factual slate, which includes the already launched Agents of the Shadows plus forthcoming titles The Curse of Vologne and Petit Panda.

Agents of the Shadows (1×60’) explores the world of French espionage and was produced for French pay TV broadcaster Canal+.

The Curse of the Vologne (4×45′) has been commissioned by France 3 and will tell the story of the murder of Grégory Villemin, whose body was found in woods near the Vologne river in 1984, and the extraordinary ramifications for everyone involved.

The series will air autumn 2018 in primetime and will be directed by Pierre Hurel and produced by Emmanuel Chain, Gael Leiblang and Fabrice Frank from Elephant.

Petit Panda is a 1×60’ documentary about the first baby panda born in France. It recently attracted 3.5 million viewers to commercial terrestrial net TF1.

Sky Vision has also acquired Elephant series Extraordinary Powers of the Human Body, which aired on France 2, after the two companies worked together to create a 6×60’ bespoke version of the series for the international market

The deal was brokered between Ben Hall, chief creative officer at iZen TV, the international content production group of which Elephant is a co-founder, Gael Leiblang, head of documentaries for Elephant, and Andrew Bowers, acquisitions manager at Sky Vision.

Elephant, which claims to be the largest independent producer in France, was founded by Emmanuel Chain and Thierry Bizot in 1999.

Earlier this year the French producer appointed the former head of international coproductions from Newen Group to a newly created role focusing on international drama.
