Sky packs in Pac-Man 3D

UK satcaster Sky has acquired television rights to an upcoming 3D animated comedy featuring classic video game character Pac-Man.

Sky 3D will air Pac-Man and the Ghostly Adventures (26×22′) in the UK and Ireland from autumn 2013.

The action-adventure comedy will feature the main character from the 31-year-old arcade game, which is considered one of the most recognisable video game brands, in a series of escapades with his friends.

US-based distributor 41 Entertainment introduced the show to the international market at Mip Junior in October. Earlier this year, kidcaster Disney XD acquired rights to air the toon in the US.

The stereoscopic 3D series comes from Arad Productions (Spider-Man, Iron Man, Hulk) and video game publisher Namco Bandai Games, which owns the Pac-Man brand. Arad’s Avi Arad, former chairman and CEO of Marvel Studios, executive produces along with Rick Unger (Biker Mice From Mars, X-Men Evolution).

Hanna-Barbera and Namco produced the first Pac-Man cartoon series in the early 1980s, when it aired on ABC in the US.
