Six new ABC series from DMD

LA SCREENINGS: Disney Media Distribution (DMD) has six new ABC series on offer at the LA Screenings this week, as well as five from cablenet Freeform.

Buyers at DMD’s LA Screenings event tonight in Burbank will have plenty of new series to mull over, including seven dramas and four comedies, spanning broadcast, cable and SVoD.

The dramas include five from the ABC network – The Crossing, The Gospel of Kevin, For the People, Marvel’s Inhumans and the as-yet untitled Grey’s Anatomy spin-off. Adding to the drama are Sirens and Marvel’s Cloak & Dagger, both being produced for Freeform, and the Hulu series Marvel’s Runaways.

On the comedy front, the ABC sitcom The Mayor is joined by the Freeform threesome Alone Together, Liberal Arts and Marvel’s New Warriors.

Drama

The Crossing This drama centres on some refugees from the future who arrive in a small American town. Dan Dworkin and Jay Beattie are the writers and exec produce with Jason Reed. ABC Studios is making the mid-season show and the pilot is directed by Rob Bowman. Writer-producer duo Dworkin and Beattie have Scream, Revenge, Matador and Criminal Minds among their credits.

The Gospel of Kevin This light drama is from exec production duo Michele Fazekas and Tara Butters (Marvel’s Agent Carter, Resurrection) and airs Tuesdays at 22.00 from this fall. It follows a clueless no-hoper, played by Jason Ritter (Parenthood), who is given a mission to save the world. ABC Studios is making the show. The pilot is directed by Paul McGuigan.

For the People Created by Shondaland’s Paul William Davies and exec produced by Shonda Rhimes and Betsy Beers, this legal drama debuts mid-season on ABC. The series, from ABC Studios, stars Ben Rappaport, Susannah Flood, Wesam Keesh, Regé-Jean Page, Ben Shenkman, Hope Davis, Vondie Curtis-Hall and Anna Deavere Smith.

Comedy

The Mayor This sitcom is from exec producers Daveed Diggs (Hamilton) and Jamie Tarses (Happy Endings), and writer/exec producer Jeremy Bronson (Speechless). ABC Studios is making the show, which follows a young rapper who stands for major as a PR stunt and wins. It airs on Tuesdays at 21.30 from this fall, with Black-ish as its lead-in.
