The as-yet-unnamed channel will launch this fall with more than 1,500 hours of content provided by MGM. It will include a mixture of MGM sci-fi, fantasy and adventure titles including TV series Stargate, Poltergeist, Outer Limits and Dead Like Me.

Sinclair Television Group will own the channel, with its co-chief operating officer Steve Pruet overseeing the venture. MGM, meanwhile, will handle certain network operations, including programming.

Sinclair and MGM are anticipating entering distribution deals with other broadcasters prior to launch. Initially, the channel will cover approximately 30% of the US.

The deal comes in the same week that Sinclair Broadcast Group formed a joint venture with Michael Eisner’s Tornante to create, produce and distribute first-run syndicated TV shows.
