The US streamer is edging closer to a straight-to-series order for two 10-part seasons, according to numerous reports.

No details about the show are currently available but it would join House of Cards, Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt and Judd Apatow’s forthcoming Love as the other Netflix series to receive a two-run order.

Groening’s The Simpsons began in 1987 as a series of shorts on The Tracey Ullman show before turning into one of the most popular animated series of all time, spanning 27 seasons on US network Fox so far.

In addition, Netflix has renewed its sitcom Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt for a second outing.

The Tina Fey sitcom, starring Ellie Kemper (The Office) as a woman who escapes from a doomsday cult and starts life over in New York, is produced by Universal Television, Little Stranger, 3 Arts Entertainment and Bevel Gears. It’s distributed by NBCUniversal International.

The series was originally due to air on NBC but Netflix stepped in to produce the first two seasons.

Meanwhile, Netflix has also renewed Marvel drama Jessica Jones for a second 13-part run.

It joins Daredevil, the upcoming Luke Cage, Iron Fist and miniseries The Defenders as the other Marvel shows in Netflix’s locker.

In related news, Netflix has signed a deal to roll out on cable and broadband operator StarHub in Singapore.

StarHub’s FibreTV customers will be able to access Netflix via their set-top boxes by the second quarter of 2016.
