Shulman resurfaces at Wow

Canadian media firm Wow Unlimited Media has appointed the former VP and head of content at defunct SVoD service Shomi as senior VP and general manager.

Marni Shulman

Marni Shulman will be responsible for overseeing the launch of Wow’s forthcoming multiplatform kids’ and youth brand as well as leading the firm’s fledgling partnership with Bell Media to launch a new children’s channel.

Shulman was VP and head of content and programming for Shomi, which was the first homegrown SVoD service launched in Canada but shut down after two years on the market in November 2016.

Prior to joining Shomi, Marni worked as VP of content for IFC Canada, Showcase Action and Showcase Diva Networks, as well as director of programming for CTV Travel.

Wow Unlimited Media was formed last year after what was Rainmaker Entertainment in Canada acquired online toon network Frederator Studios and management firm Ezrin Hirsh Entertainment.

“Her programming experience as well as understanding of audiences and content will be huge assets for our upcoming platform initiatives,” Neil Chakravarti, Wow president and chief operating officer, said of Shulman.

Shulman added: “Combining the unparalleled talents of veteran animated content creators, kids’ branding pioneers, best-in-class production experts and next-generation digital content trendsetters, this company is poised to create the most innovative, multiplatform ‘kidult’ product offerings.”
