ShowMax adds shortform video series

A South African SVoD service has tapped an Ireland-based subscription TV firm to produce a series featuring videos from creators in East Africa.

ShowMax, which launched in South Africa in 2015, has commissioned The QYou to produce Q Hits (13×30′), which will be made up of popular shortform web videos sourced from around East Africa.

Rachel Marete, a Kenyan former Miss World, is attached as a host of the series, which will launch on March 1. It comes after ShowMax expanded its online TV service in 36 countries across Africa in May last year.

“The QYou showed us they understand the needs of millennials in Africa and are able to create a bespoke set of shows that are relevant to this audience,” said ShowMax Africa head Chris Savides.

“We’re looking for these new shows to enhance our current offering and provide younger customers with the snackable, shareable content they are already engaging with online.”
