Stephen David preps Hefner miniseries

Banijay -owned US prodco Stephen David Entertainment (SDE) and Playboy’s production unit are working on a miniseries about the life of Playboy founder Hugh Hefner.

American Playboy: The Hugh Hefner Story begins production this year and is a copro between SDE and Playboy subsidiary Alta Loma Entertainment.

It will mix traditional documentary techniques with a scripted narrative to tell the story of the creation of one of world’s most recognisable brands.

SDE, which became part of Banijay Group in early 2015, has previously produced factual dramas such as The Men Who Built America and The Making of the Mob: New York.

“As a brand, Playboy has unparalleled international recognition, and we look forward to reaching audiences around the world,” said executive producer Stephen David.
