Scripps sets up distribution arm

US-based cablecaster Scripps Networks International (SNI) has launched an in-house distribution division, and tapped a company veteran to run it.

Hud Woodle has been named VP of international programme licensing and distribution, reporting to Simone Nardi, chief financial officer, international, and is based in New York.

“As Scripps Networks’ international business continues to expand, bringing our international programme sales and distribution function in-house enables us to more closely coordinate our international and regional channel and programming priorities,” said Nardi.

Nardi said Woodle has recently been “helping establish our channel business across Asia-Pacific and maximising international programme sales opportunities.”

Woodle – a former GRB Worldwide and E! Entertainment exec – will manage the company’s programme sales and content distribution to third-party broadcasters outside the US. He was already handling SNI’s sales in Latin America and is currently in the process of building his sales teams in New York, London, Singapore and Sydney.

The move means SNI’s exclusive programme sales partnership with UK-based Passion Distribution will end in March 2015. Passion will, however, be shopping SNI titles at Mipcom next month and will continue to rep certain SNI titles until September 2016.

SNI’s library of programming includes lifestyle titles from its cable channel portfolio including HGTV, DIY Network, Food Network, Cooking Channel, Fine Living, Asian Food Channel, Travel Channel and Great American Country. It also part-owns UKTV in the UK.
