Number One begins with casting team traveling to major cities around the country auditioning thousands of qualifying candidates. Each performance is recorded on a video camera and the favoured candidates are then published on the show’s official website.

The public can vote, comment and share their favourite videos. The 50 most popular candidates and 50 others selected by the programme’s casting team move to the final casting stage. Here, these 100 applicants meet the panel of celebrity judges – five of the nation’s top-selling artists. The candidates must pick one of the five judges to evaluate their performance, but they’ll have to make some quick decisions because each judge can only see a maximum of 20 singers.

From this moment on, there’s no turning back. Our judges select five candidates each to perform live on show 1, where a new selection is made. From show 2 on, the 14 contestants chosen will face both the judges and the audience. Once all the contestants have performed, it’s time for assessment. Every judge can grant untouchable status to his favourite contestant safeguarding him from elimination. The unfortunate ones that are not selected by the judges will have to win over the public by garnering as many SMS votes and calls as they can to stay in the competition. The two contestants with the least votes have one last chance to impress the judges singing unaccompanied. The one not making it will be eliminated.

In addition to the live performance, the contestants are given weekly challenges, where they might be asked to create a music video or promote themselves on social media sites. They will also receive a weekly allowance which they can spend on styling or private dance or vocal coaching.

After several weeks, the four contestants remaining go head to head in a grand finale where they compete for an impressive cash prize. The winner is determined by public vote.
