Salvador Chaparro is a theatre actor who always dreamed of attaining success on the silver screen, but never triumphed. However, life had an important role for him: playing Vicente Vallejo a well-known and powerful drug Lord who decides to turn himself to the authorities in an abandoned football stadium. In this case, it isn’t precisely Vicente Vallejo who surrenders, but his double, Salvador Chaparro. He was asked to carry out this mission and hoax the justice system of his country.

During the supposed surrender, a highly powerful bomb explodes. As a result, dozens of bodies, including police officers and journalists, covered the stadium. Salvador doesn’t suffer any injuries and manages to escape. The real Vallejo orders his men to find Salvador and kill him.

While running away to save his life Salvador meets Tumbao a taxi driver to whom he will tell his life story. Tumbao believes what he has been told and helps him out, and together they look for refuge. Salvador tells him how he ended up being the double of the most wanted criminal in the world. Everything started six months earlier; two strange men, Cardenal and Mosco, offered him a job. The job consisted on acting for an action movie about international mafia. Salvador explained to Tumbao that from the beginning he felt something illegal in the proposal and refused to accept. Yet, he was kidnapped and taken to a private island in the Maracaibo Gulf. There, Salvador is presented to the man he is forced to double, Vallejo. The drug lord is determined to find a double that looks just like him in order to use him as he pleases, just like Hitler and Stalin other known characters in world history. The similarities between Vallejo and Salvador are undeniable. However, Vallejo wants his double to look exactly like him so he puts Salvador through a facial surgery against his will. When Salvador wakes up from the effects of the anaesthesia he realizes that his face is now an identical reflection of Vallejo´s. What’s more amazing is that the drug lord orders a DNA test for both him and Salvador, and discovers that they are half-brothers; sons of the same father and different mothers.

During his time on the island, Salvador meets Esmeralda, a beautiful girl who is supposed to become part of Vallejo´s harem, together with three other girls from different countries. However, Esmeralda (whose real name is Veronica Bernal) is really seeking to avenge the murder of her sister, Clara, which happened years ago. Salvador is enchanted by Esmeralda and falls in love at first sight; yet, he receives a deadly threat from Vallejo. Salvador is forced to do everything Vallejo orders since his people have captured Mercedes and Anita and have threatened to kill them if Salvador doesn’t agree to personify Vallejo.
