Javier is a man who thought he could have everything he ever dreamed of in life: an important medical title, youth and a beautiful wife named Maria. However, this delightful and glamorous woman is high maintenance and requires large amounts of money to cover her luxurious living standards. Even though her husband is an important doctor in the emergency room of a well-known hospital he doesn’t earn enough to meet Maria’s expensive taste. Javier’s love for his wife will inspire him to aim towards a more prestigious professional title in efforts to become financially stable enough to keep up with his flashy wife’s expensive lifestyle.

Finally Javier gets closer to attaining the promotion he has been eagerly waiting for and the chance of getting a raise is almost becoming a reality. Confident that his plans will work, he buys an expensive apartment, spoiling Maria even more. Fate however, had different plans for both of them; Javier never gets promoted and as a result, the young couple disappointed and heartbroken attempts to find a better life abroad. Maria buys an airplane ticket to Miami; she had planned to leave while Javier sold the furniture, the car and returned the apartment. When the day for Javier to travel finally came Luis, his best and only friend, offers to take him to the airport. While Luis is awfully sad for his best friend’s farewell, Javier is wonderfully happy because he’s going to meet his wife again. On the way he receives an unexpected call from Maria; she was upset, crying, and confused; she utters the words that will forever change Javier’s life. “Javier, don’t come! Something has changed my mind! It’s not you, it’s me!”
