FremantleMedia-owned UFA, which was behind Generation War and Deutschland 83, has struck a ground-breaking coproduction pact for a follow-up to the latter with Amazon, while Netflix has licensed rights to the former, acquired period drama Ku'damm 56 and has now picked up The Same Sky – directed by Oscar nominee Oliver Hirschbiegel.
Hofman looks ahead to new series Charité, helmed by Sönke Wortmann – another leading German film director making his TV debut – plus a drama based on the lives of celebrated magicians Siegfried and Roy, which he hopes could establish a blueprint for coproductions moving forwards.
