“Technology has sped up the inevitable trend towards democratisation of our culture and it has certainly increased the democratisation of entertainment,” he says.

“It used to be that you would have an audience watching someone performing on the stage, on the screen, on the ball field or in the arena – you had the audience and the performers.

“All of a sudden, we as the audience have become the entertainment and we see it even in the programming.”
