TALKING SHOP: In the week that US video-on-demand service Netflix launched in the UK and Ireland, chief content officer Ted Sarandos is confident about the firm's growth prospects, despite competition in the market from the likes of Sky and Amazon's LoveFilm.
"We launched with a very representative selection of content that is going to grow every single day - the content will never be as thin as it is today in Ireland and the UK. In less than a year in Canada, it completely doubled and we grew that territory to over a million subscribers," said Sarandos.
In this episode, Sarandos says that Netflix also hopes to extend its original programming strategy to the UK market in due course, but would not be drawn on recent rumours that US telecoms giant Verizon is interested in buying the firm.
