Mulville also discusses his thoughts on how proposed changes to the BBC’s terms of trade could affect the UK indie scene and the future of Hat Trick amid the latest wave of M&A activity.
Having been through the process of buying back the firm from private equity owners five years ago and speculation in 2012 it may sell to ITV, Mulville says he intends to remain independent for the foreseeable future.
“We often get wined and dined and it’s very nice that people are interested in the company,” he says. “I never planned on staying here this long but I’m enmeshed with it now. It’s part of my life in a way. I’m not retiring, I’m not selling, I’m just keeping on going, hopefully.”
