Rather, now managing editor and anchor of TV news magazine Dan Rather Reports on cable channel AXS TV, talks about some of his career highlights - including reporting on Martin Luther King Jr and the Vietnam War.
“As far back as I could remember I wanted to be a reporter,” Rather says.
“In my time and place, which was in the 1930s, being a reporter meant being a reporter in print, which is what I was inspired to do. Unfortunately I am a remarkably poor speller, which is a weakness for someone in print.”
Rather also address some of the challenges facing the journalism industry in the digital age.
“Part of what we are supposed to do is expose corruption, be part of checks and balances on power. That’s been diminished quite considerably since we’ve moved into this digital age."
