Electronics giant Samsung sees investing in content as a vital part of its development strategy. So when it put up a US$300,000 prize for the Samsung Second Screen Storytellers Competition at the New York TV Festival more than 120 pilots were entered.
The winner on Saturday night was D-Tec, a pilot created by Joseph Saroufim, Peter Saroufim and Stephen Interrante out of Los Angeles. The project integrates first and second screen action in a futuristic sci-fi thriller.
Samsung's Anderson told C21: "We see this as an opportunity to develop thought leadership. Technology without relevant content is not compelling and it's time these two communities start working together. The next big thing in entertainment is likely to come from the fusion of technology and content, and also how the user interacts with it."
