Screen Oz reveals factual funding

Aussie programme agency Screen Australia has revealed the latest factual shows to receive its funding, which it claims is worth nearly A$4m (US$3.3m) to the local production sector.

Shows include Barbecue, from Projector Films, which takes audiences on a gastronomic journey exploring the barbecue cultures of the world, and Big Stories Co’s The Family, about a mysterious sect formed in the 1960s by yoga teacher Anne Hamilton-Byrne.

Elsewhere, Yarra Bank Films has received support for Monsieur Mayonnaise, about the creation of a distinctive and personal graphic novel by Australian artist and filmmaker Philippe Mora, while Wonderland Productions and SEE Pictures will produce The Pink House, about a brothel owner in a mining town in remote Western Australia.

Other prodcos to receive funding include Go Girl Productions, for Reindeer in My Saami Heart; Aquarius Films, for Roller Dreams; and Joined Up Films, which is producing controversial documentary Is Australia Racist?, which will air on SBS. The broadcaster will also air Are You Racist?, from Mindful Media, which has also received support.

The grants follow a restructuring of Screen Australia in July, which was the biggest overhaul in the federal agency’s six-year history.
