Scorpion adds Holocaust love story

Independent UK distributor Scorpion TV has picked up a one-off documentary ahead of Mipcom about a remarkable relationship that started during the Holocaust.

There Is Many Like Us is from documentary maker Josh Webber and focuses on the story of his grandfather Max who met his wife Rena in a prison camp.

The pair became separated initially when Max managed to escape but met up again when the camp was liberated, after Rena heard from a mutual friend that he was still alive. However, Max was later involved in a serious accident and after recuperating found that Rena’s parents had married her off to another man.

The pair went their separate ways, with Max marrying his first wife Halina with whom he stayed for 30 years until her death. Three decades on and now living in Canada, a chance meeting with Rena in Toronto rekindled the romance. Their story has attracted worldwide press attention since being made public.

The 1×52′ or 1×80′ film takes its title from the whispered words of encouragement Max gave to Rena in the prison camp.
