Scandi deal for Anger Management

MIPTV: A major Scandinavian broadcast deal has been secured for Charlie Sheen’s new sitcom Anger Management.

The show will air in Sweden, Norway and Denmark on Viasat Broadcasting channels, following a deal between Viasat-parent Modern Times Group (MTG) and producer-distributor Lionsgate Entertainment.

Anger Management, which marks Sheen’s return to television following his departure from Two & a Half Men, is loosely based on the 2003 film starring Jack Nicholson and Adam Sandler. It follows an ex-baseball pro who must confront his problems with anger.

It is produced by Lionsgate Television with Revolution Studios, Evolution Entertainment, Mohawk Productions and Estevez Sheen Productions for US cablenet FX. Bruce Helford is leading the writing team and is also showrunner. Joe Roth, Vince Totino, Mark Burg, Sheen and Helford are also exec producing.

Shooting began in March and the show will premiere on FX at the end of June. FX has already committed to an order of 100 episodes, subject to the first 10 episodes exceeding a certain rating. Anger Management has previously been sold into Canada, Latin America and Germany.

Jakob Mejlhede, Viasat’s newly promoted senior VP of acquisitions and programming, said: “With a global star of Sheen’s magnitude to drive the show, we’re confident that Anger Management will deliver to both viewers and advertisers alike.”
