Australian pubcaster SBS is hiring a Matchbox Pictures executive as commissioning editor for documentaries.

Susie Jones, currently factual entertainment development executive at the NBCUniversal-owned prodco, will commission and oversee the production of multiplatform documentary content at SBS.

Starting on September 12, Jones will join SBS’s non-scripted team whose recent output includes Blackfella Films’ First Contact and DNA Nation and CJZ’s Go Back to Where You Came From.

She will report to head of documentaries Joseph Maxwell, who was promoted from Jones’s new role in a recent reorganisation that saw the content team split into scripted and non-scripted arms.

In four-and-a-half years at Matchbox, Jones oversaw the development of productions for various networks, including the SBS commission Date My Race. Previously she spent 10 years as a freelance producer on such shows as Rudely Interrupted (ABC), Undercover Boss (Network Ten), Myf Warhurst’s Nice (ABC) and The Secret Millionaire (Nine Network).

SBS director of TV and online content Marshall Heald said: “Susie’s strong track record in factual content production will be a great addition to SBS’s non-scripted team as we continue to tell innovative and ground-breaking stories that reflect our diverse world.”
