RTM stages Turkish drama first

Heart of the City first aired on Turkey’s ATV

Malaysian national broadcaster RTM has picked up its first ever Turkish drama series from Scandi-based distributor Eccho Rights.

Heart of the City, from prolific Turkish producer Ay Yapim, will launch on RTM later this summer.

The plot centres on a young man raised at sea who encounters a beautiful dancer and faces trauma from his past when he is forced to live on the mainland.

Nixon Yau Lim, head of Asia Pacific at Eccho Rights, which has an extensive catalogue of Turkish drama, said: “We see the Malaysian market as a big opportunity for Turkish Drama.

“There is already a strong core of fans in the region enjoying Turkish series through subscription services, but with RTM bringing Heart of the City to national, free-to-air television, we expect the genre to flourish even further.”

Further to the deal in Malaysia, Eccho has also secured new sales for the series in Israel (Dori Media), Lithuania (LNK), Angola (Zap) and Bulgaria (BTV).
