RTL lands on Temptation Island

The Swedish version of Temptation Island

German broadcaster RTL has commissioned a local version of the Temptation Island format from the new German arm of European production group Banijay.

The reality format has been commissioned jointly with RTL and its VoD platform TV Now and will premiere in 2019.

The controversial format sees four couples at a crossroads in their relationships travel to a summer paradise where they live in separate resorts surrounded by attractive singletons sent to test their fidelity.

Regular video updates of what their partners are up to will be shown and the series culminates with a 24-hour date, where each participant chooses one single to spend the night with.

It is being produced by Banijay Productions Germany, which was announced in March following Banijay’s acquisition of Cologne-based Brainpool.

Former Endemol Shine chairman in northern Europe Marcus Wolter was hired as CEO of the new venture in April.

The format was also picked up by USA Network recently and is set to be produced within Banijay Group US.
