Law & Order: SVU

RTL in Germany has expanded its partnership with NBCUniversal (NBCU) International Distribution, securing a deal that will see it take first-run free TV rights to series and films.

The arrangement gives RTL access to shows such as Law & Order, Law & Order: Criminal Intent and Monk, with all of NBCU’s forthcoming shows also going to the broadcaster from 2018.

Movies from the Fast & Furious franchise and the Fifty Shades of Grey trilogy are also included, as are forthcoming animated films including How the Grinch Stole Christmas.

Joerg Graf, exec VP of production and acquisitions at RTL, said: “NBCU and Mediengruppe RTL Deutschland have been very successful partners for many years now. This existing, close and trustworthy partnership allowed NBCU and Mediengruppe RTL to close a further and even expanded deal.

“We’re proud of a deal that perfectly reflects the current and future standards of content and its distribution through our linear and non-linear platforms.”

Belinda Menendez, president of NBCU International Distribution and Networks, added: “This deal is the latest exciting chapter in a highly valued relationship with Mediengruppe RTL that is nearing almost four successful decades of partnership.

“We are delighted that Mediengruppe RTL’s audiences can anticipate premieres of NBCU’s top-quality feature film slate and TV series through our multi-year renewed relationship.”
