Rightster replaces CEO

Online video distribution platform Rightster has replaced its outgoing CEO with its current chief commercial officer and former senior director of YouTube EMEA.

Patrick Walker, who was chief content officer at Base79 before it was acquired by Rightster last year, takes over from Charlie Muirhead with immediate effect.

Rightster said it would be appointing a new chief commercial officer to replace Walker, who has also been appointed to the board of the company, “in due course.”

Walker spent eight years as senior director of content partnerships for Google and YouTube, where he was responsible for launching and managing YouTube in Europe, the Middle East and Africa. He left to join Base79 in 2013, as revealed by C21.

“The transformation of Rightster into the first online video distribution network that is a public company is one I have been proud to lead,” said Muirhead, who will still hold a place on the Rightster board.

The reshuffle comes after Jonathan Bates joined UK prodco Factory Media from Rightster this month. He is now Factory Media’s director of entertainment, responsible for the distribution, monetisation and strategy for its rights holders, brands and publishers in the UK, US and EMEA.
